Going back to January 8th of this year, this site has raised concerns over Canada’s desperate supply picture of refined gasoline. Beginning last week, many Shell stations began to run out of product. The fact that Shell is mothballing yet another refinery, and is refusing to allow the Montreal refinery to continue operation, is no trivial matter. What’s more, the country’s business commentators refuse to acknowledge the problem. The result of this is that motorists can expect not only higher prices for fuel but the real prospect going forward of intermittent supply disruptions. This is absolutely unacceptable in a nation where the supply infrastructure for fuel has been paid for through your taxes – going back thirty years. Ottawa acknowledged this problem in 2007 but has since refused to act on this potential economic calamity.
